Piano Red

Piano Red (October 19, 1911 – July 25, 1985), born William Lee Perryman, was an American blues and rhythm and blues pianist and singer. He was known for his distinctive boogie-woogie piano style and energetic performances.

Piano Red was born in Hampton, Georgia, and was blind from an early age due to glaucoma. He began his musical career playing in Atlanta clubs and on the streets. He gained wider recognition in the late 1940s and early 1950s, signing with RCA Victor and recording hits like "Rockin' With Red" and "Red's Boogie."

His music often featured humorous lyrics and a lively stage presence. He was influential in the development of rock and roll, bridging the gap between blues and early rock music.

In the 1960s, Piano Red's popularity waned, but he experienced a resurgence in the 1970s under the moniker "Dr. Feelgood," performing blues and boogie-woogie at venues across the country. He toured extensively and continued to record until his death in 1985. His music remains popular among blues and roots music enthusiasts.
