Perneb

Perneb was an ancient Egyptian official who lived during the late Old Kingdom, specifically the late Fifth Dynasty and early Sixth Dynasty (c. 24th century BCE). He is best known for his well-preserved mastaba tomb discovered at Saqqara.

Perneb held several important titles, indicating his high status within the Egyptian administration. These titles included, but were not limited to: "Overseer of the Two Granaries," "Royal Scribe," and "Overseer of Works of the King." These roles suggest he was responsible for managing the royal food supply and overseeing construction projects.

Perneb's mastaba at Saqqara provides valuable insights into the funerary beliefs and artistic styles of the period. The tomb is decorated with painted reliefs depicting scenes from daily life, including farming, hunting, and the preparation of food. These scenes offer glimpses into the activities and responsibilities associated with Perneb's various official positions. The tomb also contained statues of Perneb and his family.

The mastaba of Perneb is now partially reconstructed and on display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. It serves as a significant example of Old Kingdom tomb architecture and artistry. The artifacts recovered from the tomb contribute to our understanding of ancient Egyptian society and administration during this period.
