Jin Xing
Jin Xing (金星, born August 13, 1967) is a Chinese ballerina, modern dancer, choreographer, actress, and television personality. She is notable for being one of the first publicly transgender women in China, and for her outspoken and often controversial views on social and cultural issues.
Jin Xing received early dance training and joined the People's Liberation Army at the age of nine, where she studied dance. She later pursued dance education abroad, including in New York. In 1996, she underwent gender affirmation surgery in China.
Following her transition, Jin Xing returned to China and established the Shanghai Jin Xing Dance Theatre, a pioneering independent modern dance company. She has choreographed and performed in numerous acclaimed productions both in China and internationally.
Beyond her dance career, Jin Xing has gained significant popularity as a television personality. She has hosted and judged several talk shows and reality programs, known for her direct and often critical commentary. Her television work has made her a well-known and influential figure in Chinese popular culture.
