Paul Gilligan (judge)

Paul Gilligan is a judge in Massachusetts. He currently serves as the Chief Justice of the Massachusetts Juvenile Court.

Gilligan was appointed to the Juvenile Court bench in 2001 by Governor Jane Swift. He became the Chief Justice in 2013.

As Chief Justice, Gilligan is responsible for the administration and supervision of the Juvenile Court, which has jurisdiction over cases involving children under the age of 18 who are alleged to be delinquent, in need of care and protection, or have been the subject of custody disputes.

Gilligan has been involved in initiatives focused on juvenile justice reform, including efforts to reduce recidivism and improve outcomes for young people involved in the court system. He has also spoken and written on issues related to juvenile law and child welfare.

Prior to his appointment to the bench, Gilligan worked as a prosecutor and in private practice.
