Khujirt

Khujirt (Хужирт) is a sum (district) in the Övörkhangai Province of Mongolia. It is located in the central part of the province and is known for its natural hot springs, which are a popular tourist destination. The name "Khujirt" itself is derived from the Mongolian word for "salty," referring to the mineral-rich waters of these springs.

The sum center is located approximately 400 kilometers southwest of Ulaanbaatar, the capital city of Mongolia. Economically, Khujirt relies primarily on animal husbandry, including the raising of sheep, goats, cattle, horses, and camels. Tourism, centered around the hot springs and the surrounding scenic landscapes, also contributes to the local economy.

Khujirt's hot springs are believed to have therapeutic properties and attract visitors seeking relief from various ailments. The area surrounding the springs features several ger camps and small hotels to accommodate tourists.

Administratively, Khujirt is divided into several bags (sub-districts). The local government is responsible for providing services such as education, healthcare, and infrastructure maintenance to the residents of the sum.
