Parazacco

Parazacco is a genus of ray-finned fish in the family Cyprinidae, native to East Asia. Currently, it contains only one recognized species, Parazacco spilurus.

Parazacco spilurus, also known as the pale chub, is a small freshwater fish found in rivers and streams of China (specifically the Yangtze River basin), Taiwan, and Vietnam.

The pale chub is characterized by its slender body, typically reaching a maximum length of around 10-15 centimeters. It is generally silver in color, with a prominent dark stripe along its lateral line. During breeding season, males may exhibit brighter coloration.

Pale chubs are omnivorous, feeding on a variety of invertebrates, algae, and plant matter. They are a relatively common species within their native range and are not currently considered to be threatened. They are sometimes kept in aquariums, although they require specific water conditions and are not as commonly traded as other ornamental fish.

Little research exists about other potential members of the Parazacco genus. Current taxonomic classifications list only one species.
