Overheard (film)
Overheard (竊聽風雲, Sit Ting Fung Wan) is a 2009 Hong Kong crime thriller film directed by Alan Mak and Felix Chong, and starring Lau Ching-wan, Louis Koo, and Daniel Wu. The film revolves around a team of officers from the Commercial Crime Bureau (CCB) who conduct surveillance on a listed company suspected of insider trading.
The film explores themes of greed, morality, and the consequences of unchecked ambition within the financial world. The plot focuses on the ethical dilemmas faced by the officers as they become embroiled in the schemes of the very individuals they are investigating. Driven by personal desires and financial pressures, they find themselves crossing lines and compromising their integrity, with devastating results.
Overheard was a critical and commercial success in Hong Kong and internationally. The film spawned two sequels, Overheard 2 (2011) and Overheard 3 (2014), each featuring similar themes and some returning cast members, though with entirely different plots and characters. The sequels are not direct continuations of the original film's storyline. The success of the Overheard series cemented Mak and Chong's reputation as prominent filmmakers in the Hong Kong crime genre.
