Old City Hall (Aarhus)
The Old City Hall in Aarhus, Denmark, (Danish: Aarhus gamle Rådhus) is a former city hall building located in the city's central district. It served as the city's administrative center from its construction in 1857 until 1941, when the current Aarhus City Hall was inaugurated.
The building is situated on Mejlgade, a historic street in Aarhus's old town. Designed by architect Christian Frederik Møller, it is a neoclassical structure with characteristic features of the period, including a symmetrical facade and restrained ornamentation.
Following its function as a city hall, the building has housed various institutions and functions. Today, it serves as the Aarhus Women's Museum (Danish: Kvindemuseet i Danmark). The museum is dedicated to documenting and exhibiting the history of women in Denmark and their contributions to society.
The Old City Hall is a protected building and a significant landmark in Aarhus, representing a key period in the city's history and architectural development. Its continued use as a museum ensures its preservation and accessibility to the public.
