Thomas R. Fitzgerald (Jesuit)
Thomas R. Fitzgerald, S.J. (1935 – 2011) was an American Jesuit priest, theologian, and academic known for his work in interreligious dialogue, particularly between Christianity and Islam. He served as a professor of Theology at Georgetown University for over three decades.
Fitzgerald earned his doctorate in Islamic studies from the University of Chicago. His research focused primarily on Sufism and Islamic philosophy. He was a prominent figure in fostering understanding and respect between religious traditions, and he frequently lectured and published on the topic.
Fitzgerald held several key positions during his career, including Director of the Woodstock Theological Center at Georgetown University.
