Herbie, the Love Bug (TV series)

Herbie, the Love Bug (TV series) was a short-lived American television series that aired on CBS in 1982. It was a continuation of the popular "Herbie" film franchise, featuring the sentient Volkswagen Beetle named Herbie.

The series differed significantly from the films in tone and premise. Instead of focusing on racing or romantic relationships, the show revolved around a family, the Brodericks, who inherited Herbie from their Uncle Jim. Jim Broderick, a widower with three children (Julie, Robbie, and Matthew), struggled to make ends meet, and Herbie often helped them out, usually through his own unique and often mischievous ways.

Dean Jones, who starred in the original 1968 film The Love Bug, returned to play Jim Broderick. The series featured more comedic and family-oriented storylines compared to the earlier films.

Despite the presence of Dean Jones and the enduring popularity of the Herbie character, the series was not a success. It suffered from low ratings and was cancelled after only five episodes aired. The remaining episodes were never broadcast in the United States.
