All Souls Chapel (Poland Spring, Maine)
All Souls Chapel is a historic non-denominational chapel located in Poland Spring, Maine. Built in 1912, the chapel is a notable example of Gothic Revival architecture and is a significant feature of the Poland Spring Preservation Park. It was commissioned by the Ricker family, who owned and operated the Poland Spring Resort, a prominent mineral water bottling company and resort destination in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The chapel served as a place of worship for guests and staff of the resort. Its interior features stained glass windows, ornate woodwork, and a peaceful atmosphere intended for contemplation and spiritual reflection. The exterior is constructed primarily of local fieldstone.
The chapel, along with the other remaining structures of the Poland Spring Resort, including the Maine State Building and the Poland Spring Inn, is a reminder of the area's history as a popular tourist destination and a center for the bottled water industry. All Souls Chapel continues to be used for weddings, memorial services, and other special events. The Poland Spring Preservation Society oversees the chapel and the other historic buildings in the park, ensuring their preservation for future generations.
