Lowdown (TV series)

Lowdown is an Australian television comedy series created by Amanda Brotchie and Nick Earls. It aired for two seasons on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC1) from 2010 to 2012. The series revolves around the life of Alex Burchill, a freelance writer of questionable talent and ethics who struggles to navigate the world of celebrity journalism and public relations in Melbourne.

The show is characterized by its satirical and often cringe-worthy portrayal of the media industry and the personalities within it. Alex, portrayed by Adam Zwar, is frequently seen chasing down minor celebrities, embellishing stories, and making ethically dubious decisions in pursuit of a quick paycheck.

Supporting characters include Alex's agent, Gilbert (Geoffrey Rush in Season 1, replaced by Kim Gyngell in Season 2), who is constantly exasperated by Alex's lack of professionalism; his long-suffering girlfriend, Sarah (Antonia Prebble), who works as a lawyer; and various eccentric celebrities and media personalities.

Lowdown is known for its sharp writing, strong performances, and its observational humor about Australian culture and the media landscape. While critically acclaimed, it did not achieve mainstream popularity and was not renewed for a third season.
