Thulin E (aircraft)

The Thulin E was a single-engine, two-seat reconnaissance aircraft designed and built by AB Thulinverken in Landskrona, Sweden, during World War I. It was a development of the earlier Thulin D, and was primarily used by the Swedish Army's aviation branch, the Flygkompaniet.

The Thulin E was a biplane with a wooden frame covered in fabric. It was powered by a 80 hp Thulin A rotary engine, a licensed copy of the French Le Rhône 9C. The aircraft featured a synchronized machine gun for the observer, allowing it to fire through the propeller arc.

The aircraft saw service in a neutral Sweden, being used for border patrol and training purposes. Some examples were also sold to other countries, including Norway and the Netherlands. Although not directly involved in combat, the Thulin E played an important role in the development of Swedish military aviation and contributed to the country's defense capabilities during a period of significant international tension. It was considered a reliable and capable aircraft for its time. The aircraft was eventually phased out of service in the late 1920s.
