John Seymour (died 1552)

John Seymour (died 1552) was an English politician and courtier during the reigns of Henry VIII, Edward VI, and Mary I. He was the eldest son of Sir John Seymour of Wolf Hall, Wiltshire, and Margery Wentworth.

He inherited the family estates upon his father's death in 1536. His younger sister, Jane Seymour, became Henry VIII's third wife and Queen of England in 1536. This elevated the Seymour family to a position of great influence at court. John Seymour subsequently benefited from this elevation.

He served as a Member of Parliament for Wiltshire in 1529 and again in 1539. Following his sister's marriage, he was knighted in June 1536. After Jane Seymour's death in 1537, he retained a prominent position, albeit less powerful than that held by his younger brother, Edward Seymour, who became Duke of Somerset and Lord Protector during the reign of Edward VI.

John Seymour remained loyal to his brother Edward during the latter's time as Protector. He was involved in military matters and held various offices.

He died in 1552, during the reign of Edward VI, and was succeeded by his son, John Seymour. His descendants continued to hold significant positions in Wiltshire.
