Joseph Hewitt (judge)
Joseph Hewitt (born 1954) is an American judge serving as a Senior Judge on the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. He was nominated by President George W. Bush on November 14, 2007, and confirmed by the Senate on December 19, 2007. He received his commission on January 3, 2008. Judge Hewitt previously served as an Associate Judge on the same court from 1994 to 2007, having been nominated by President Bill Clinton. Before his judicial appointments, he practiced law in Washington, D.C., specializing in criminal defense. He received his J.D. from the Georgetown University Law Center. He retired from active service as a Superior Court judge in 2019 but remains on the bench as a Senior Judge, hearing cases on a part-time basis.
