Mutxamel

Mutxamel (Valencian: Mutxamel, Spanish: Muchamiel) is a town and municipality located in the comarca of Alacantí, in the province of Alicante, Valencian Community, Spain. It lies approximately 9 kilometers northwest of the city of Alicante.

Mutxamel's economy is primarily based on agriculture, especially citrus fruits and vegetables, and increasingly on the service sector linked to tourism and its proximity to Alicante. The town's historical architecture includes the Parish Church of El Salvador (Iglesia Parroquial del Salvador) and various farmhouses and estates ( alquerías and fincas).

The area has been inhabited since prehistoric times, with archaeological evidence indicating Roman and Moorish presence. The current town's name is believed to be derived from the Arabic word "Mutxamel," meaning "beautiful view" or similar descriptive phrase.

Mutxamel celebrates its patron saint festivities in August, featuring religious processions, cultural events, and traditional celebrations. The local language is Valencian, although Spanish is also widely spoken.
