Roy (singer)
Roy Kim (born Kim Sang-woo on July 3, 1993) is a South Korean singer-songwriter. He rose to fame after winning the Mnet talent competition Superstar K4 in 2012.
Roy Kim debuted officially in 2013 with the single "Spring Spring Spring," which topped the Gaon Digital Chart. He is known for his melodic pop songs and acoustic guitar-driven sound. He has released several successful albums and singles, including "Love Love Love," "Home," "The Great Dipper," and "Only Then."
His discography spans across various genres, but he is predominantly recognized for his folk-pop and ballad styles. He often writes and composes his own music.
Beyond his musical career, Roy Kim briefly faced legal investigation regarding online distribution of illegally taken videos, but was eventually cleared of charges related to the distribution itself. He did, however, admit to viewing the photos and videos and was fined for violating the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection, etc.
Roy Kim is a graduate of Georgetown University, where he studied sociology. He temporarily halted his music career to fulfill his mandatory military service in South Korea, completing it in 2022. He has since resumed his musical activities.
