Oğuz Yılmaz (musician)

Oğuz Yılmaz (born January 1, 1968, in Ankara, Turkey; died May 20, 2021, in Ankara, Turkey) was a Turkish folk musician, singer, and songwriter, best known for his contributions to Ankara folk music (Ankara havaları). He was particularly recognized for his energetic performances and unique style, which incorporated elements of electronic music and pop into traditional Ankara melodies.

Yılmaz rose to prominence in the 1990s and 2000s, becoming a popular figure in Turkish wedding and entertainment scenes. He released numerous albums throughout his career, popularizing songs that are still frequently played at celebrations. His music often featured themes of love, daily life, and regional pride. While celebrated by many, his fusion style also drew criticism from some traditionalists who viewed it as a departure from authentic Ankara folk music. He passed away due to a heart attack. His legacy continues to be felt in the Ankara music scene and beyond.
