Nilaveli
Nilaveli is a coastal resort town and beach located in the Trincomalee District of Sri Lanka. Situated approximately 16 kilometers (10 miles) northwest of Trincomalee town, Nilaveli is known for its pristine white sand beaches, clear turquoise waters, and relatively calm sea conditions, particularly during the dry season.
Nilaveli is a popular tourist destination, attracting visitors for swimming, sunbathing, snorkeling, diving, and fishing. Pigeon Island National Park, a marine sanctuary renowned for its coral reefs and diverse marine life, is easily accessible by boat from Nilaveli. Boat tours frequently depart from the Nilaveli beach to Pigeon Island.
Historically, the area surrounding Nilaveli has been affected by the Sri Lankan civil war. However, in recent years, the region has experienced significant development and tourism growth, contributing to the local economy.
The climate in Nilaveli is tropical, with a distinct dry season typically occurring between March and September. The monsoon season brings heavier rainfall, particularly during November and December.
