Murder Is Easy (TV series)
Murder Is Easy is a two-part British crime drama television miniseries based on Agatha Christie's 1939 novel of the same name. Several adaptations of the novel exist, and this entry refers specifically to the version released in 2023, starring David Jonsson as Fitzwilliam and Morfydd Clark as Bridget.
The adaptation shifts the setting of the novel from a rural English village in the late 1930s to England in 1954. The plot revolves around Luke Fitzwilliam (renamed Fitzwilliam in this adaptation), a Nigerian immigrant working as a civil servant, who encounters Miss Pinkerton on a train. Miss Pinkerton tells him she is going to Scotland Yard to report a series of suspicious deaths in her village of Wychwood, believing they are not accidents but murders. Before she can reach Scotland Yard, Miss Pinkerton is killed, prompting Fitzwilliam to investigate the deaths himself, posing as a researcher collecting data on local superstitions.
The series explores themes of prejudice, class differences, and the impact of societal change in post-war Britain. The plot diverges significantly from the original novel, introducing new characters and altering the motivations of existing ones. Notable changes include Fitzwilliam's background and Miss Pinkerton's connection to the village victims.
The miniseries was produced by Mammoth Screen for BBC and BritBox International. It was adapted by Siân Ejiwunmi-Le Berre and directed by Meenu Gaur.
