John Seymour (died 1491)
John Seymour (died 1491) was an English nobleman and member of the Seymour family, prominent landowners in Wiltshire and Somerset. He was the son of John Seymour and Isabel MacWilliam.
His marriage to Elizabeth Coker, daughter of Sir Henry Coker of Coker, Somerset, produced several children, including:
- John Seymour (c. 1474 – 1536), who became a prominent courtier during the reign of Henry VIII and was the father of Queen Jane Seymour, as well as Edward Seymour, 1st Duke of Somerset, and Thomas Seymour, 1st Baron Seymour of Sudeley.
- Robert Seymour
- Jane Seymour, who married John Huddleston.
- Margaret Seymour, who married Sir John Worsley.
- Elizabeth Seymour, who married Sir George St Loe
John Seymour's death in 1491 marked the passing of an elder generation and set the stage for the rise of his son, John Seymour (c. 1474 – 1536), and the subsequent prominence of the Seymour family within the Tudor court. He was buried in Easton, Wiltshire.
