Mick Mars

Mick Mars (born Robert Alan Deal on May 4, 1951) is an American musician, best known as the lead guitarist for the heavy metal band Mötley Crüe. He was a founding member of the band in 1981 and remained with them until his departure in 2022 due to health reasons, specifically his ongoing battle with ankylosing spondylitis.

Mars' distinctive guitar playing style, characterized by its blues-influenced riffs and aggressive tone, was a significant factor in Mötley Crüe's sound and success. He is known for his use of drop tunings and unique guitar modifications. He contributed to all of the band's studio albums, from their debut Too Fast for Love (1981) to Saints of Los Angeles (2008).

Beyond his work with Mötley Crüe, Mars has also engaged in solo projects. He released a solo album, The Other Side of Mars, in 2024. He has also guested on recordings by other artists.

Ankylosing spondylitis, a chronic inflammatory disease affecting the spine and other joints, has significantly impacted Mars' mobility and playing ability throughout his career. Despite these challenges, he continued to perform and record with Mötley Crüe for several decades.
