Chinese frigate Huaiyin (513)

The Huaiyin (Hull number 513) is a Type 053H2G (Jiangwei I class) frigate of the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN). These frigates were designed as a transitional class between the earlier Type 053H series and the more modern multi-role destroyers and frigates being developed in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

The Huaiyin, along with her sister ship, represents an improvement over earlier Type 053 hulls, featuring enhanced anti-aircraft capabilities and a more streamlined superstructure. Key armaments typically include anti-ship missiles, a 100mm main gun, and anti-aircraft guns or missiles. Specific weapon configurations can vary slightly between ships of the class.

The Type 053H2G frigates, including the Huaiyin, played a significant role in modernizing the PLAN's surface fleet and provided valuable experience in ship design and construction that informed subsequent generations of Chinese warships. The Huaiyin served in the PLAN's East Sea Fleet. These vessels are being phased out and some have been transferred to the China Coast Guard. Their ongoing status should be confirmed with up-to-date sources.
