McMurdo (crater)
McMurdo is a heavily eroded impact crater located in the Argyre quadrangle of Mars. It is situated at 47.0°S latitude and 15.0°W longitude. The crater spans approximately 30.4 kilometers in diameter.
Due to its age and the Martian geological processes, McMurdo exhibits significant degradation. Its rim is heavily worn and indistinct in places, and the crater floor is relatively smooth, likely filled with sediments and dust over geological time. The features surrounding the crater display evidence of fluvial activity, suggesting the presence of water in the region's past. While not as prominent as some other Martian craters, McMurdo contributes to the understanding of the Red Planet's impact history and environmental evolution. The crater's proximity to other notable features within the Argyre basin makes it a point of interest for comparative geological studies.
