Saint-Maurice (provincial electoral district)
Saint-Maurice is a provincial electoral district in the Mauricie region of Quebec, Canada. It elects one member to the National Assembly of Quebec.
The district was created in 1867, at the time of the confederation of Canada and the establishment of the province of Quebec (then known as Quebec). It has undergone several boundary changes over the years, most recently in 2011.
Historically, Saint-Maurice has been a riding that has shifted its allegiance between various political parties. The Parti Québécois has held the riding for significant portions of its history, but the Liberal Party of Quebec has also enjoyed considerable support. Other parties have also occasionally achieved success in the district.
The riding is named after the Saint-Maurice River, which flows through the region. The principal municipality located within the electoral district is Shawinigan. The economy of the region is diverse, including manufacturing, tourism, and forestry.
