Hank Snow

Clarence Eugene "Hank" Snow (May 9, 1914 – December 20, 1999) was a Canadian-American country music artist. Over his career, he recorded more than 140 albums and charted more than 85 singles on the Billboard country charts from 1950 until 1980. He is considered one of the most influential and important country music performers of the 20th century.

Snow, nicknamed "The Singing Ranger," was born in Brooklyn, Queens County, Nova Scotia, Canada. His early life was marked by hardship and abuse, experiences which profoundly influenced his songwriting. He was a self-taught guitarist, developing a distinctive thumb-picking style.

He began his career in Canadian radio in the 1930s and gained popularity throughout the country. In 1949, he moved to the United States and achieved significant success with his hits "I'm Movin' On" (1950), which became his signature song, "The Golden Rocket," and "I Don't Hurt Anymore."

Snow was known for his clean-cut image, his charismatic stage presence, and his dedication to traditional country music. He was a member of the Grand Ole Opry for over 40 years. He advocated for other country artists, including a young Elvis Presley, whom he championed early in his career.

Snow was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1979. His legacy continues through his extensive catalog of recordings and his influence on subsequent generations of country musicians. He died in Nashville, Tennessee, at the age of 85.
