Marshal of the Court (Serbia, Yugoslavia)

The Marshal of the Court (Serbian: Маршал Двора, Maršal Dvora; Croatian: Maršal Dvora) was a high-ranking official responsible for managing the royal household and court of the Kingdom of Serbia and later the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. The position held considerable administrative and ceremonial authority, overseeing finances, personnel, and protocol within the royal palace and during royal events.

The Marshal acted as a principal advisor to the monarch on matters related to court life and was a key figure in maintaining the smooth functioning of the royal institution. Responsibilities included organizing official receptions, dinners, and other events, as well as managing the royal estates and staff. The office also oversaw the royal treasury and ensured the proper allocation of funds for court operations.

The Marshal was often a person of high social standing, typically drawn from the aristocracy or military elite, and held a position of great trust and influence. The appointment was made directly by the monarch and reflected a close relationship. The abolition of the monarchy in Yugoslavia following World War II also brought an end to the office of Marshal of the Court.
