Anasaitis
Anasaitis is a genus of extinct orthoceratoid cephalopods that lived during the Early Ordovician period. Orthoceratoids are an early type of nautiloid cephalopod, characterized by a straight, conical shell divided internally by septa. Anasaitis, like other orthoceratoids, possessed a siphuncle, a tube running through the septa that connected the chambers of the shell and allowed the animal to regulate buoyancy. Fossils of Anasaitis are typically found in marine sedimentary rocks of Ordovician age. Diagnostic features would be used by paleontologists to distinguish Anasaitis from other related orthoceratoid genera, though specific defining characteristics are not widely available. Further research and fossil discoveries may contribute to a more complete understanding of this genus.
