Huron River (Ohio)
The Huron River is a 69-mile-long (111 km) river located in northern Ohio, in the United States. It rises in southeast Huron County and flows generally north into Lake Erie at Huron, Ohio.
The river's watershed drains approximately 420 square miles (1,100 km2) of predominantly agricultural land. Significant communities located along the Huron River include Norwalk, Milan, and Huron.
The river is popular for recreational activities, including canoeing, kayaking, and fishing. Common fish species found in the Huron River include smallmouth bass, rock bass, and various panfish.
The Huron River is susceptible to flooding, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall or snowmelt. Various flood control measures have been implemented along the river to mitigate the risk of damage.
The name "Huron" refers to the Huron people, a Native American tribe who historically inhabited the region.
