968th Division (Vietnam)

The 968th Division was a military formation of the People's Army of Vietnam (PAVN) during the Vietnam War and its aftermath. It was primarily active in the central highlands region of South Vietnam and later in Laos.

Formed in the late 1960s, the 968th Division's specific structure and composition varied over time, but generally included infantry regiments, artillery units, and support elements. Its primary role was to support the Viet Cong (National Liberation Front) insurgency and conduct offensive operations against Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN) and United States forces.

The division participated in numerous battles and campaigns in the central highlands, including engagements around Khe Sanh, Dak To, and Kontum. It was known for its ability to operate in difficult terrain and its resilience in the face of heavy firepower.

Following the end of the Vietnam War in 1975, the 968th Division was redeployed to Laos, where it played a role in supporting the Pathet Lao government and countering insurgent activity. Its activities in Laos were less well-documented compared to its involvement in the Vietnam War.

Information regarding the 968th Division's current status and disposition is limited, but it is believed to remain an active component of the PAVN.
