Dragon Tattoo (film series)

The Dragon Tattoo film series consists of adaptations of Stieg Larsson's Millennium series of novels, specifically those centered around the characters Lisbeth Salander and Mikael Blomkvist. The series is noted for its crime thriller and mystery elements, as well as its depiction of strong female characters and explorations of social issues such as violence against women and corruption.

The series began with the Swedish-language film Män som hatar kvinnor (English title: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) released in 2009, adapted from the first book in the series. This film was followed by two sequels, also based on Larsson's novels: Flickan som lekte med elden (The Girl Who Played with Fire) and Luftslottet som sprängdes (The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest), both released in 2009. These films starred Noomi Rapace as Lisbeth Salander and Michael Nyqvist as Mikael Blomkvist.

A Hollywood adaptation of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, also titled The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, was released in 2011. Directed by David Fincher, it starred Rooney Mara as Lisbeth Salander and Daniel Craig as Mikael Blomkvist. While intended as the first in a series of American adaptations, only the first film was produced. Plans for a sequel based on The Girl Who Played with Fire were eventually scrapped.

The film series, in both its Swedish and American iterations, is generally recognized for its intense narratives, complex characters, and explorations of dark themes. The films have garnered critical acclaim and commercial success, particularly for their portrayal of Lisbeth Salander.
