Beitass

Beitass refers to an obsolete unit of dry measure used historically in parts of North Africa, specifically the Barbary Coast. It was typically used for measuring grain, particularly wheat and barley. The precise volume of a Beitass varied from region to region and even between different time periods within the same region, making it difficult to establish a standardized conversion to modern units. Historical documents suggest values ranging from a few liters to upwards of 20 liters depending on the locality and the specific commodity being measured. Due to its lack of standardization and eventual obsolescence, the Beitass is rarely encountered in modern contexts. The unit primarily survives in historical texts and records related to trade and agriculture in the Barbary region.
