Monometer
A monometer is a line of verse consisting of only one metrical foot. It is a rare form in most poetic traditions, often used for specific effects or in combination with other line lengths within a larger poem or stanza. Due to its brevity, a monometer often carries significant weight or acts as a powerful pause within a larger structure. The precise effect of a monometer depends heavily on the surrounding context and the chosen meter of the foot. For instance, a monometer composed of a spondee would create a very different impact than one composed of a pyrrhic. The use of monometer can emphasize a particular word or idea, create a sense of starkness or isolation, or provide a rhythmic variation that draws attention to the line. Although uncommon as a primary line length, it can be found sporadically in various poetic forms and styles.
