Pottinger (District Electoral Area)

The Pottinger District Electoral Area (DEA) is one of the District Electoral Areas in Belfast, Northern Ireland. It is located in the east of the city and is one of the seven DEAs that make up Belfast City Council. Pottinger DEA was created in 2014 as part of a review of local government boundaries in Northern Ireland, replacing the former Pottinger electoral ward.

The DEA is named after Sir Henry Pottinger, the first Governor of Hong Kong and a native of Belfast.

The Pottinger DEA includes areas such as Ballymacarrett, Bloomfield, and parts of the Newtownards Road. It is generally considered to be a diverse area in terms of demographics and socio-economic factors.

Councillors elected to Belfast City Council from the Pottinger DEA represent the interests of the local population and are involved in decision-making processes related to local services, planning, and development. Elections for the Pottinger DEA are held every four years as part of the Northern Ireland local elections. The elected councillors are responsible for addressing issues raised by constituents and participating in the overall governance of Belfast City Council.
