Ge You

Ge You (葛优, born April 19, 1957) is a highly acclaimed and influential Chinese actor, primarily known for his comedic roles in films directed by Feng Xiaogang. He is widely regarded as one of China's most successful and recognizable actors, often credited with popularizing a distinct "Beijing slacker" comedic style.

Ge You rose to prominence in the 1990s, becoming a box office draw and a critical darling for his performances in films like Beijing Bastards (1993), To Live (1994), Shanghai Triad (1995), and Be There or Be Square (1998). He has worked with many of China's most celebrated directors, including Zhang Yimou, Chen Kaige, and Jiang Wen.

He is celebrated for his understated acting style, his ability to portray ordinary characters with both humor and pathos, and his mastery of Mandarin Chinese dialect. He has received numerous awards for his performances, including Best Actor at the Cannes Film Festival for his role in To Live (directed by Zhang Yimou).
