Karl Leo

Karl Leo (born 1960) is a German physicist and materials scientist, renowned for his contributions to the field of organic electronics. He is a professor at the Technical University of Dresden (Technische Universität Dresden), where he holds the Chair of Optoelectronics.

Leo's research focuses on the fundamental physics and technological applications of organic semiconductors. His work has been instrumental in advancing the performance and efficiency of organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), organic solar cells, and organic transistors. He is known for developing novel device architectures and materials for these applications.

He received his diploma in physics from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg and his doctorate from the University of Freiburg. After a research stay at the University of Southern California, he joined the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research in Stuttgart before moving to Dresden.

Leo has received numerous awards and honors for his scientific achievements, including the Leibniz Prize of the German Research Foundation (DFG). He is a member of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina and the Saxon Academy of Sciences. He also founded several companies based on his research, contributing to the commercialization of organic electronic technologies.
