Nicholas Arnold (lord justice)
Nicholas Arnold is a retired Lord Justice of Appeal of England and Wales. He was a judge of the Court of Appeal from 2019 to 2024. Prior to his appointment to the Court of Appeal, he was a judge of the High Court of Justice, Chancery Division, from 2008 to 2019.
Arnold was educated at Eton College and Trinity College, Cambridge. He was called to the Bar (Lincoln's Inn) in 1985 and took silk (became a Queen's Counsel) in 1999. His practice at the Bar focused on intellectual property law, particularly patents, trademarks, and copyright.
During his time in the High Court and the Court of Appeal, Arnold was known for his expertise in intellectual property law and his judgments in complex and high-profile cases in that field. He has also contributed to legal scholarship in intellectual property.
Since retiring from the bench, he has continued to be involved in intellectual property matters, including through arbitration and mediation.
