Maroshi (Shaviyani Atoll)

Maroshi is an inhabited island in the Shaviyani Atoll (also known as North Miladhummadulu Atoll) of the Maldives. It is one of the islands that make up the administrative division of Shaviyani Atoll.

The island is known for its historical significance. Traditionally, the islanders of Maroshi were skilled carpenters and played a vital role in shipbuilding for the Maldivian royalty and other atolls. The island is believed to have supplied timber and skilled labor for constructing the Kalhu Ofumathi, the royal yacht of Sultan Mohamed Thakurufaanu, a revered figure in Maldivian history who liberated the country from Portuguese rule.

Maroshi has a local island council responsible for the administration and governance of the island. The inhabitants primarily engage in fishing and other related maritime activities, as well as tourism-related services. The island has seen development in infrastructure, including improvements in housing, healthcare facilities, and educational institutions. Connectivity to other islands and Malé, the capital city, is generally maintained through sea transport.
