Ed Wubbe

Ed Wubbe (born Rotterdam, Netherlands, 1957) is a Dutch choreographer and artistic director. He is best known for his work with Scapino Ballet Rotterdam, where he has served as artistic director since 1993.

Wubbe received his dance training at the Rotterdam Dance Academy. His choreographic style is characterized by its theatricality, humor, and integration of diverse dance forms, including classical ballet, modern dance, and popular dance styles. His works often explore themes of human connection, social commentary, and the urban landscape.

Throughout his career, Wubbe has created numerous ballets for Scapino Ballet Rotterdam and other dance companies in the Netherlands and abroad. Notable works include "Le Chat Noir," "Ting!", "Holland," and "Songs from a Distance." He has also collaborated with visual artists, musicians, and designers to create multidisciplinary performances.

Wubbe has received several awards and accolades for his contributions to Dutch dance, including the Choreography Prize and the Gouden Zwaan (Golden Swan). He is considered one of the leading figures in contemporary Dutch dance. Under his directorship, Scapino Ballet Rotterdam has gained national and international recognition for its innovative and accessible performances.
