Luszyca
Luszyca is a Polish word referring to a type of skin disease affecting primarily livestock, especially horses and cattle. It is characterized by itchy, scaly lesions, particularly in the mane, tail, and legs. The disease is associated with infestation by mites, specifically of the Chorioptes genus, although other factors may contribute to its development and severity.
Luszyca is considered a nuisance condition in animal husbandry, causing discomfort to the affected animals and potentially leading to secondary infections due to self-trauma from scratching. Treatment typically involves the use of acaricides (medications to kill mites) and supportive care to alleviate itching and inflammation. Prevention focuses on maintaining good hygiene and minimizing contact between susceptible animals. The term is sometimes used loosely to describe other skin conditions in animals that share similar symptoms, making accurate diagnosis important.
