Shamsuddin Ahmed (surgeon)
Shamsuddin Ahmed (born in British India, date unspecified; died in Dhaka, Bangladesh, 2004) was a Bangladeshi surgeon known for his contributions to the development of surgical practices in Bangladesh after its independence in 1971. He played a significant role in establishing modern surgical techniques and training programs in the country.
Ahmed served as the Director of Dhaka Medical College Hospital and Professor of Surgery at Dhaka Medical College. He was instrumental in improving the quality of surgical care available to the general population and helped train numerous surgeons who went on to practice across Bangladesh.
His areas of expertise included general surgery, and he published several articles on surgical topics in medical journals. He was recognized for his dedication to patient care and his commitment to advancing surgical education in Bangladesh.
He was awarded the Ekushey Padak posthumously in 2005 for his contributions to medicine.
