Liston (Corfu)

The Liston is an iconic architectural feature in Corfu Town, the capital of the Greek island of Corfu. It is a colonnaded promenade that runs along the western side of the Spianada (the main square). Built during the period of French rule under Napoleon, its design is heavily influenced by the Rue de Rivoli in Paris.

Historically, access to the Liston's colonnade was restricted to members of the Corfiot nobility, listed in a "Libro d'Oro" (Golden Book) – hence the name "Liston," possibly derived from the Venetian word "lista" (list) or a corruption of "listone" (large stripe), referring to the restricted area.
