Liberation Through Hearing (album)
Liberation Through Hearing in the Bardo is the debut studio album by American experimental metal band Evil Genius, released in 1987 by SST Records. The album is a concept album based on the Bardo Thodol, more commonly known as the Tibetan Book of the Dead. The album's sound is characterized by its dense, distorted guitars, unconventional song structures, and the use of spoken word samples and electronic effects to create an unsettling and psychedelic atmosphere. The lyrics, often delivered in a guttural growl, explore themes of death, rebirth, and the nature of consciousness as presented in the Bardo Thodol. Liberation Through Hearing in the Bardo is considered a significant work in the development of experimental metal and noise rock, and has been influential on subsequent artists in those genres.
