Flamingo (train)
The Flamingo was a named passenger train operated by the Florida East Coast Railway (FEC). It provided service between Jacksonville, Florida, and Miami, Florida, a route running along Florida's Atlantic coast. The Flamingo was one of the FEC's premier trains, known for its speed and luxury compared to slower local services.
The train primarily catered to tourists and business travelers connecting major cities along Florida's eastern seaboard. As with many passenger trains in the United States, the Flamingo's popularity declined after World War II due to the rise of automobile travel and commercial airlines. The FEC ultimately discontinued passenger service, including the Flamingo, in 1968 following a labor dispute.
