Fallout 3
Fallout 3 is a post-apocalyptic action role-playing open world video game developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. It was released in October 2008 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. It is the third major installment in the Fallout series, following Fallout and Fallout 2, and preceding Fallout: New Vegas and Fallout 4.
The game is set in the year 2277, 200 years after a nuclear war devastated the United States, in a region encompassing Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia, collectively known as the "Capital Wasteland." The player character, known as the Lone Wanderer, is raised in Vault 101, a fallout shelter. The game's story begins when the Lone Wanderer's father mysteriously disappears from the Vault, prompting the player to venture out into the dangerous Wasteland to find him.
Fallout 3 features a blend of real-time combat and a turn-based combat system called V.A.T.S. (Vault-Tec Assisted Targeting System). Players can develop their character by increasing skills and perks as they level up. Moral choices play a significant role, influencing the game's story and the Lone Wanderer's karma.
The game received critical acclaim for its open world, engaging story, and unique atmosphere. It won multiple Game of the Year awards from various publications. Downloadable content (DLC) was later released, expanding the game's story and adding new areas to explore. These DLC packs included Operation: Anchorage, The Pitt, Broken Steel, Point Lookout, and Mothership Zeta.
