Marc Séguin (painter)

Marc Séguin (born March 20, 1970, in Ottawa, Ontario) is a contemporary Canadian painter, printmaker, sculptor, novelist, and filmmaker. He is known for his large-scale, mixed-media paintings often incorporating found objects, text, and unconventional materials like tar, blood, and taxidermied animals. His work frequently explores themes of violence, death, the environment, and the complexities of human nature.

Séguin studied visual arts at the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) and has exhibited extensively in Canada and internationally. He has gained significant recognition for his distinctive style and provocative subject matter, often provoking both admiration and controversy. His artistic practice extends beyond painting, encompassing printmaking, sculpture, and more recently, filmmaking. He has directed several films, including Stealing Alice (2022) and Demain est un autre jour (2008) based on the novel of the same name by Heather O'Neill.

In addition to his visual art and film work, Séguin is also a published novelist. His writing, like his art, often grapples with difficult themes and existential questions. He is considered an important figure in contemporary Canadian art, known for his raw and unflinching exploration of the darker aspects of human experience.
