Guy Wilkinson (physicist)

Guy Wilkinson is a British particle physicist known for his contributions to the study of heavy flavour physics, particularly within the LHCb experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN.

Wilkinson's research has focused on precision measurements of the properties of beauty quarks (b quarks), searching for rare decays of B mesons (mesons containing a b quark), and exploring CP violation in the b-quark sector. CP violation is a phenomenon where the laws of physics are not the same under the combined transformations of charge conjugation (C) and parity (P). Studying CP violation in B meson decays is a key area in particle physics, helping to understand the matter-antimatter asymmetry in the universe.

He is a leading member of the LHCb collaboration, holding various leadership positions within the experiment over the years. His work has been instrumental in the discovery of several new particles and the precise determination of parameters in the Standard Model of particle physics. Wilkinson has also been involved in the development and construction of detectors for the LHCb experiment.
