Perendale

The Perendale is a New Zealand breed of sheep developed in the 1950s and 1960s at Massey University. It is a dual-purpose breed, raised for both its wool and meat production. The breed was created by crossing Romney ewes with Cheviot rams, aiming to combine the hardiness and meat quality of the Cheviot with the fleece weight and staple length of the Romney.

Perendales are known for their ability to thrive in a variety of environments, including hill country. They are relatively easy to manage and are good mothers. The breed produces a medium-grade wool, suitable for a range of applications. The fleece is typically white and of a micron count between 30 and 35. Perendales are a popular breed in New Zealand and are also found in other countries.
