Byoryolyokh (Ayan-Yuryakh)

Byoryolyokh (also spelled as Bërëlëkh or Berelekh; Yakut: Бөрөлөөх) is a settlement (a selo) in Srednekolymsky District of the Sakha Republic, Russia. It is situated near the confluence of the Ayan-Yuryakh and Kolyma rivers. As Ayan-Yuryakh and Kul are source rivers of the Kolyma, Byoryolyokh is considered to be located in the upper reaches of the Kolyma River basin.

The settlement is historically significant due to its proximity to the location where the Dalstroy administration, the organization responsible for the forced-labor camps of the Kolyma goldfields under Stalin's regime, was headquartered in its early years. The town served as a key supply base and transshipment point for materials and personnel being sent to the interior of the Kolyma region.

The local economy of Byoryolyokh is primarily based on traditional activities such as reindeer herding, fishing, and hunting. The climate is subarctic, characterized by long, extremely cold winters and short, cool summers. Access to Byoryolyokh is limited, with transportation primarily relying on river transport during the ice-free season and winter roads (ice roads) during the colder months. The population is predominantly Yakut.
