Ijaiye
Ijaiye is a historical town and a former kingdom located in present-day Oyo State, Nigeria. It is historically significant for its strong defensive walls and its role in resisting Fulani expansion during the 19th century. Ijaiye played a crucial part in the Yoruba civil wars. The town's resilience and strategic importance contributed to its recognition as a powerful Yoruba center. Its decline occurred after its destruction during the Yoruba wars, leading to the dispersal of its population. Today, Ijaiye exists as a smaller settlement, but it retains a legacy of resistance and historical significance within the Yoruba region. Its history is often recounted in connection with other major Yoruba towns like Ibadan and Oyo.
